Principal Mission Designer

Cloud Imperium is looking for an enthusiastic and technically minded Principal Mission Designer to work on its ever-expanding Persistent Universe at its UK studio located in the heart of Manchester.

About the role:

You would be a part of The Mission Design Team (MDT) made up of designers, a producer and embedded QAs, and is responsible for many aspects of the game, such as creation of the first implementation of new missions, upkeep of existing missions, Creation of Events for players.

Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games creates cutting-edge videogames that defy expectations. We're currently developing Star Citizen, a record-breaking multiplayer online space sim, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure set in the same universe. What You'll Do:

• Take a high-level design and refine it down with little help before pitching it to directors with your lead.
• Design, document and own major features, mechanics, missions and systems, setting the standard for quality and approach across the team
• Work in various in-house tools including StarScript, a visual scripting editor, to create logic for missions, systems and events.
• Work closely with other departments to suggest improvements to AI, gameplay, mechanics and tools, acting as a key point of contact and advocate for the Mission Feature Team
• Drive the creation of content for high-profile in-game events and demos, taking responsibility for their success
• Champion a culture of mentorship, actively developing senior, mid-level and junior designers and helping to shape team practices and standards
• Help improve process’ for the team ensuring we are operating to the best of our ability
• Gain a fundamental understanding of the game and its direction so you can help steer Peers in the correct direction

What are we looking for:

• 10 – 12 years Extensive industry experience on AAA titles with proven ownership of major features or missions at a principal or equivalent level
• Deep understanding of visual scripting or coding fundamentals
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across disciplines, with a track record of leading cross-functional efforts
• Ability to be a Product Owner when needed ensuring the quality of the content outside of just the Missions Remit.
• A proactive and structured approach to mentoring and developing talent at all levels
• Strong ability to build, manage and influence relationships across departments at a senior level
• The ability to manage complex workstreams, balance competing priorities and consistently deliver to deadlines
